COSTA RICA wedding photographer – Photography in COSTA RICA & Europe
Hi! I’m Antonio, a destination wedding photographer based in Europe and Mexico, and Costa Rica is one of the most visually extraordinary destinations I work in.
Costa Rica is a country of extraordinary biological diversity compressed into a small territory. In a single day you can move from Pacific beach to cloud forest to volcanic crater to Caribbean jungle, and the quality of the natural environment at every point along that journey is simply overwhelming. For couples who want a destination wedding that feels genuinely embedded in nature rather than placed beside it, Costa Rica is without question one of the most compelling options in the world.
The Guanacaste coast in the northwest is the primary destination wedding region, with a dry tropical climate, consistent Pacific sunsets, and a concentration of luxury resort properties along the Papagayo Peninsula that rivals anything in Mexico or the Caribbean. Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo is one of the finest resort wedding properties in all of Latin America, with two private beaches, extraordinary event infrastructure and a quality of service that is consistently among the highest I have encountered anywhere. Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo offers a more contemporary design identity on the same peninsula. And further south along the coast, the area around Tamarindo and Nosara attracts couples who want a more surf-oriented, bohemian Pacific atmosphere without sacrificing quality.
Beyond Guanacaste, the Central Valley around San José and the cloud forests of Monteverde offer completely different settings. The luxury boutique lodge scene in areas like La Fortuna, near Arenal Volcano, and in the Osa Peninsula in the south, provides venues of extraordinary natural character for couples who want something more adventurous and more deeply embedded in the Costa Rican landscape.
I specialize in blending editorial and documentary wedding photography, present throughout your day without ever getting in the way. I work both in digital and on film, and the Pacific light of Guanacaste, warm, golden and directional as the sun drops over the peninsula at the end of the afternoon, is exceptional for analog photography.
Whether you’re planning an intimate jungle lodge ceremony for twenty guests or a grand multi-day celebration at one of Papagayo’s flagship resort properties, I’d be honored to be there with you.
COSTA RICA on film — analog wedding photography
The light in Guanacaste has a quality that I find endlessly compelling. The dry tropical climate means the sky is clear and vast, and the golden hour light falls across the Pacific with a warmth and a directness that is unlike anything in the Caribbean or the cloud forest. On analog film, that translates into images of extraordinary depth and richness. The warm tones of the volcanic landscape, the deep greens of the tropical vegetation, the turquoise of the Pacific at the end of the afternoon, all of it rendered on film with a quality that feels genuinely cinematic.
For me, film isn’t a stylistic choice made for trends, it’s a deliberate creative decision. The slower pace it demands, the intentionality it requires, produces images that feel crafted rather than captured. Images that age beautifully.
I offer both fully analog collections and film add-ons to digital coverage. If you’re curious about incorporating film into your Costa Rica wedding, just mention it when you get in touch.
Where to get married in COSTA RICA
Costa Rica’s wedding venue scene is anchored by the Papagayo Peninsula in Guanacaste, but the country offers extraordinary settings across several distinct regions, each with its own visual character and atmosphere.
Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo is the finest resort wedding property in the country and one of the best in all of Latin America. Two private beaches, multiple ceremony and reception spaces, impeccable coordination and a quality of service that makes even complex multi-day celebrations feel effortless. The views across the Gulf of Papagayo at golden hour, with the volcanic peaks of the Central Valley visible in the distance, are genuinely extraordinary.
Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo shares the same extraordinary peninsula setting with a more contemporary design identity. The open-air architecture, the integration of the tropical landscape into the resort’s spaces, and the quality of light on the Pacific side of the peninsula produce images of exceptional visual richness.
Hacienda Pinilla south of Tamarindo is a private beach community with multiple venues, including a historic hacienda, beach club and chapel, set within a large private reserve. It suits couples who want a more intimate, privately managed setting than the major resort properties.
El Mangroove on the Papagayo Gulf is a boutique luxury property with a strong design identity and a mangrove estuary setting that is entirely unlike the conventional beach resort aesthetic. The interplay of water, vegetation and architecture produces images of extraordinary atmosphere.
Nayara Springs near Arenal Volcano is one of the most extraordinary boutique lodge properties in Costa Rica, a collection of private villas with plunge pools set in the cloud forest above the volcanic lake. The mist, the tropical vegetation and the dramatic backdrop of Arenal produce images unlike anything possible on the coast.
Kura Design Villas in Uvita on the southern Pacific coast offers a clifftop setting above the whale tail of Marino Ballena National Park, one of the most extraordinary natural formations in Costa Rica. The combination of ocean views, jungle canopy and the extraordinary geometry of the whale tail in the water below creates a setting that is genuinely unique in the world.
If you’re still choosing between Guanacaste and other regions of Costa Rica, or deciding which venue best suits your celebration, I’m happy to share what I know from having worked across the country.
