MÉRIDA wedding photographer in YUCATÁN – Photography in Mexico & Europe
Hi! I’m Antonio, a destination wedding photographer based in Mexico, and Mérida is one of the most culturally extraordinary places I work in.
Mérida is the capital of Yucatán and one of the most beautiful colonial cities in all of Mexico. The architecture of the historic center, pastel facades, arcaded courtyards, cathedral stone and ornamental ironwork, gives every wedding celebration a visual depth that no modern resort can manufacture. But what makes Mérida truly exceptional as a wedding destination is what surrounds it: a landscape of flat jungle punctuated by cenotes, Mayan ruins and haciendas, the great henequen estates that once made Yucatán the wealthiest region in Mexico, now restored into some of the most extraordinary wedding venues in the country. Hacienda Temozon, Hacienda San José, Hacienda Uayamón, each one a world unto itself, with chapel ruins, machine rooms, aqueducts and colonial architecture set against tropical vegetation and reflecting pools that photograph with a depth and character found nowhere else in Mexico.
I specialize in blending editorial and documentary wedding photography, present throughout your day without ever getting in the way. I work both in digital and on film, and the quality of light in the Yucatán, warm, diffuse and golden in the late afternoon as it catches the limestone and the pale walls of a hacienda courtyard, is among the most beautiful I have photographed anywhere in Mexico for analog photography.
A significant number of the couples I work with in Mérida fly in from the United States and Canada. Mérida Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport has direct connections from Houston, Miami and several other major North American cities, and the city is increasingly sought after by international couples who want a Mexican destination wedding with genuine cultural depth rather than resort infrastructure. I’m experienced in working with international couples and making the planning process as smooth as possible regardless of where you’re based.
Whether you’re planning an intimate courtyard ceremony in the historic center or a grand hacienda celebration deep in the Yucatecan jungle, I’d be honored to be there with you.
MÉRIDA on film — analog wedding photography
The light in the Yucatán has a quality I find endlessly compelling. The flat landscape and the open sky create a warmth and a diffusion at golden hour that wraps around the pale limestone walls of the haciendas in a way that feels almost painted. On analog film, that translates into images of extraordinary atmosphere. The warm tones of the stone, the deep greens of the tropical vegetation, the water of the reflecting pools and cenotes rendered with a crystalline depth that digital photography flattens, all of it comes alive on film in a way that feels genuinely timeless.
For me, film isn’t a stylistic choice made for trends, it’s a deliberate creative decision. The slower pace it demands, the intentionality it requires, produces images that feel crafted rather than captured. Images that age beautifully.
I offer both fully analog collections and film add-ons to digital coverage. If you’re curious about incorporating film into your Mérida wedding, just mention it when you get in touch.
Where to get married in MÉRIDA AND THE YUCATÁN
The wedding venue scene in Mérida and the surrounding Yucatán is dominated by the great haciendas, but the historic center of the city itself also offers settings of extraordinary beauty for ceremonies and celebrations.
Hacienda Temozon is the most celebrated hacienda wedding venue in the Yucatán, a vast former henequen estate south of Mérida restored by the Starwood Hotels group into a luxury property of exceptional refinement. The machine room, the chapel, the reflecting pool and the tropical gardens produce images of extraordinary depth and atmosphere. It is the natural choice for couples who want the definitive Yucatán hacienda experience.
Hacienda San José sits east of Mérida and offers a more intimate scale than Temozon, with beautifully restored colonial architecture, a private chapel, lush gardens and a reflecting pool that at golden hour becomes one of the most extraordinary ceremony settings I have photographed in Mexico.
Hacienda Uayamón near Campeche is more remote and more atmospheric than either, a partially ruined hacienda with open-air machine rooms, vine-covered arches and a tropical landscape that feels entirely apart from the modern world. It suits couples who want something with genuine wildness and historical depth.
Hacienda Xcanatún is the closest major hacienda to Mérida city center, beautifully restored with multiple gardens, a spa and event spaces that can accommodate celebrations of varying sizes. Its proximity to the city makes it particularly convenient for guests flying into Mérida.
The historic center of Mérida itself offers settings of remarkable beauty for ceremonies and portraits: the Plaza Grande, the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, the pastel streets of the Santiago and Santa Ana neighborhoods, and the private colonial mansions that can be rented for exclusive use. For couples who want the city rather than the countryside, Mérida’s architecture provides a backdrop of extraordinary visual richness.
If you’re still choosing between venues or comparing haciendas, I’m happy to share what I know from having worked across the Yucatán.

Frequently asked questions
01.
How would you describe your approach to wedding photography?
My approach blends documentary and editorial instincts. For most of your day I stay invisible, capturing real moments as they unfold. During portraits I guide you gently, making sure you look and feel your best without spending too long away from your guests.
02.
Do you shoot on film in Mérida?
Yes, and I love it. The quality of light in the Yucatán, warm and golden at golden hour as it catches the limestone walls of the haciendas and reflects off the cenotes and reflecting pools, is exceptional for analog photography. I offer fully analog collections as well as film add-ons to digital coverage, just mention your interest when you get in touch.
03.
Can we meet or have a call before booking?
Absolutely. I’m always happy to jump on a video call to hear about your plans and answer any questions. It’s a great way to make sure we’re the right fit for each other before committing to anything.
04.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book around a year in advance, especially for peak season dates. I’d recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date in mind to check availability.
05.
When will we receive our photos?
You’ll receive a preview gallery within 48 hours of your wedding. The full edited collection is delivered within two months.
06.
