Wedding at Cortijo el Trobal · Kathryn & Sam

Wedding at Cortijo el Trobal begins in the countryside just outside Seville, surrounded by olive groves and with that particular quality of Andalusian light in the afternoon that makes everything look like it was made to be photographed. It’s one of those venues where the architecture, the gardens and the setting do most of the work, and the photographer’s job is simply to follow what’s happening.

Kathryn and Sam flew in from London with their families and closest friends. That decision, to cross a border and celebrate in a place they’d chosen specifically for what it is, gives a wedding a particular energy. Everyone present chose to be there, and it shows in every photograph.

The ceremony took place in the outdoor spaces of the cortijo, with the olive groves as backdrop and the warm Andalusian sun overhead. Kathryn and Sam exchanged vows in that unhurried way that happens when people feel completely at ease with their surroundings.

The portraits in the gardens at golden hour were some of my favourites from that day. The light at Cortijo el Trobal in the late afternoon is extraordinary, warm and directional, falling on the stone walls and the ancient trees in a way that needs no intervention.

The reception in the moonlit courtyard closed the evening, with dancing and the particular happiness of a group of people who have traveled somewhere beautiful together.

If you’re planning a wedding at Cortijo el Trobal or a destination wedding in Seville, I’d love to hear about it.
