SAYULITA wedding photographer in Riviera NAYARIT – Photography in Mexico & Europe
Hi! I’m Antonio, a destination wedding photographer based in Mexico, and Sayulita is one of the most characterful places I work in.
Sayulita is a small surf village on the Riviera Nayarit coast, forty minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, and it has become one of the most sought-after bohemian wedding destinations in Mexico without losing the essential quality that makes it extraordinary: it still feels like a real place. The main beach curves around a bay of consistent Pacific swell. The streets are narrow, cobbled and lined with bougainvillea. The restaurants and bars are run by people who chose to live there rather than corporations who chose to invest there. And the light, the Pacific golden hour light that falls across the bay from the west, is among the warmest and most beautiful I photograph anywhere in Mexico.
The venue scene reflects the character of the town. There are no resort ballrooms in Sayulita, no convention centers, no event packages. What there is instead is Don Pedro’s Palapa above the main beach, Brisa Mar on the hillside with its panoramic bay views, Amor Boutique Hotel on the clifftops above the water, Teitiare Estate in the jungle south of the village, and the Cove, a private beach accessible only by boat. Each one has a personality of its own, and none of them feels like it was designed by a committee. That is exactly the point.
I specialize in blending editorial and documentary wedding photography, present throughout your day without ever getting in the way. I work both in digital and on film, and the Pacific light of Sayulita, warm, golden and directional as it drops over the bay at the end of the afternoon, is exceptional for analog photography.
A significant number of the couples I work with in Sayulita fly in from the United States and Canada. Whether you’re coming from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, New York or Chicago, Puerto Vallarta International Airport is less than an hour away with transfers easily arranged. I’m experienced in working with international couples and making the planning process as smooth as possible regardless of where you’re based.
Whether you’re planning an intimate palapa ceremony for twenty guests or a small multi-day celebration that takes in the beach, the village and the surrounding jungle, I’d be honored to be there with you.
SAYULITA on film — analog wedding photography
Sayulita has a quality of light that I find endlessly compelling. The Pacific faces west here, which means the sunset is direct and dramatic, the last light of the day falling across the bay from behind the hills to the north and turning the water and the village rooftops into something that feels entirely cinematic. On analog film, that translates into images of extraordinary warmth. The golden hour on the beach, the warm wood of the palapa structures, the bougainvillea and the cobblestones of the village streets, all of it rendered on film with a richness and a texture that digital photography struggles to replicate.
For me, film isn’t a stylistic choice made for trends, it’s a deliberate creative decision. The slower pace it demands, the intentionality it requires, produces images that feel crafted rather than captured. Images that age beautifully.
I offer both fully analog collections and film add-ons to digital coverage. If you’re curious about incorporating film into your Sayulita wedding, just mention it when you get in touch.
Where to get married in SAYULITA
Sayulita’s venue scene reflects the town itself: bohemian, unpretentious, and visually extraordinary. None of the venues here feel like they were designed for events by committee. Each one has a personality.
Don Pedro’s Palapa is the most iconic address in Sayulita, a beachfront palapa restaurant perched above the main beach with unobstructed Pacific views in every direction. The combination of rustic palm architecture, ocean backdrop, and that sunset direction produces some of the most atmospheric ceremony images possible on the Riviera Nayarit.
Brisa Mar Palapa sits on a hilltop above the village, with panoramic views across the bay, the rooftops of Sayulita, and the Pacific horizon. The open-air structure and the elevated position mean the light here is extraordinary at golden hour, and the perspective over the town adds a visual layer that no beachfront venue can offer.
Frente al Punto is a beachfront palm grove on the quieter northern end of the main beach, with direct sand access and a more intimate feel than the hillside palapas. It suits smaller ceremonies where the priority is proximity to the water.
Amor Boutique Hotel, specifically La Gran Villa and Villa Amor Eterno on the clifftops above the beach, offers a more private experience with extraordinary Pacific views, plunge pools, and an aesthetic that suits couples who want something with genuine design character.
Teitiare Estate, just south of Sayulita in the jungle, is the most secluded and luxurious option in the area, a private estate with tropical gardens, a pool, and the kind of complete privacy that the village venues cannot offer. It suits couples who want Sayulita’s Pacific atmosphere without the town’s energy on their wedding day.
The Cove Sayulita occupies a private cove with its own sandy beach and ocean views, reachable by a short boat ride, which gives ceremonies here a sense of arrival and discovery that feels entirely unique.
If you’re still choosing between venues or comparing Sayulita with San Pancho or Punta Mita, I’m happy to share what I know from having worked across the Riviera Nayarit.

02.
Do you shoot on film in Sayulita?
Yes, and I love it. The Pacific light in Sayulita, warm and golden at the end of the afternoon as the sun drops behind the hills and the bay turns amber, is exceptional for analog photography. I offer fully analog collections as well as film add-ons to digital coverage, just mention your interest when you get in touch.
03.
Can we meet or have a call before booking?
Absolutely. I’m always happy to jump on a video call to hear about your plans and answer any questions. It’s a great way to make sure we’re the right fit for each other before committing to anything.
