PLAYA DEL CARMEN wedding photographer in Riviera Maya – Photography in Mexico & Europe
Hi! I’m Antonio, a destination wedding photographer based in Mexico, and Playa del Carmen is the destination where I have spent more time than any other in the Riviera Maya.
Playa del Carmen sits at the heart of the Riviera Maya corridor, midway between Cancún to the north and Tulum to the south, and it is the most complete destination on the Caribbean coast of Mexico. The town itself has a genuine character, the pedestrian Quinta Avenida, the beach clubs, the cenotes accessible within minutes of the main strip, the ferry to Cozumel visible from the shore. But what makes it exceptional as a wedding destination is the range and quality of its venue offer. The Riviera Maya corridor around Playa del Carmen concentrates some of the most remarkable wedding properties in all of Mexico: Viceroy Riviera Maya, a collection of private jungle villas with plunge pools; UNICO 20°87°, a lifestyle-driven all-inclusive with cenote access and a strong design identity; Grand Velas Riviera Maya, one of the most complete luxury all-inclusive properties in the country; Hoteles Xcaret, a vast ecological reserve with cenotes, underground rivers and Caribbean beach within the same grounds. And further south, closer to the Tulum boundary, Saasil Kantenah, one of the last truly private beaches on the Riviera Maya, where I have photographed multiple weddings and which remains one of my favorite settings anywhere in Mexico.
I specialize in blending editorial and documentary wedding photography, present throughout your day without ever getting in the way. I work both in digital and on film, and the Caribbean light of the Riviera Maya, that combination of turquoise water, white sand and tropical canopy, is one of the most rewarding I have worked with for analog photography.
A significant number of the couples I work with in Playa del Carmen fly in from the United States and Canada. Whether you’re coming from New York, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Toronto or Vancouver, Cancún International Airport is less than an hour away with transfers easily arranged for your entire guest list. I’m experienced in working with international couples and making the planning process as smooth as possible regardless of where you’re based.
Whether you’re planning an intimate beachfront ceremony for twenty guests or a grand multi-day celebration at one of the Riviera Maya’s flagship properties, I’d be honored to be there with you.
PLAYA DEL CARMEN on film — analog wedding photography
The Caribbean light of the Riviera Maya is the reason I fell in love with shooting on film in Mexico. The combination of turquoise water, white limestone and tropical canopy creates a quality of ambient light that wraps around everything, soft, warm and rich in a way that digital photography flattens. On film, the water deepens, the greens of the jungle become richer, and the warmth of the late afternoon on the beach takes on a texture that feels genuinely timeless. For a place with as much visual poetry as the Riviera Maya, film is simply the right medium.
For me, film isn’t a stylistic choice made for trends, it’s a deliberate creative decision. The slower pace it demands, the intentionality it requires, produces images that feel crafted rather than captured. Images that age beautifully.
I offer both fully analog collections and film add-ons to digital coverage. If you’re curious about incorporating film into your Playa del Carmen wedding, just mention it when you get in touch.
Where to get married in PLAYA DEL CARMEN
Playa del Carmen and the surrounding Riviera Maya corridor have the most diverse wedding venue offer in Mexico. The range runs from large all-inclusive resort complexes to intimate boutique properties, private villas and natural settings that exist nowhere else on earth.
Viceroy Riviera Maya is one of the most visually distinctive addresses in the destination, a collection of private jungle villas with plunge pools, winding paths through the vegetation, and a beachfront setting that balances seclusion with access to the Caribbean. The scale is deliberately intimate, and the aesthetic suits couples who want something editorial and design-conscious rather than conventionally resort-like.
UNICO 20°87° offers a different proposition: a lifestyle-driven all-inclusive with a strong design identity, cenote access on the property, and an atmosphere that feels younger and more curated than its neighbors. It attracts couples who want the convenience of an all-inclusive without the generic feel.
Grand Velas Riviera Maya is one of the most complete luxury all-inclusive properties in Mexico, with multiple ceremony and reception spaces, an exceptional culinary program, and a level of service that makes large celebrations feel effortless. For couples bringing a significant number of guests, it is one of the most reliable choices in the Riviera Maya.
Hoteles Xcaret encompasses several properties within a single vast ecological reserve, including Xcaret Hotel and Hotel Xcaret Arte, with access to cenotes, underground rivers, jungle pathways and Caribbean beach within the same grounds. There is genuinely nothing else like it in Mexico.
Saasil Kantenah is one of the most beautiful boutique venue properties in the entire corridor, a private estate between the jungle and the Caribbean with ceremony spaces that feel completely removed from the resort world. I have photographed multiple weddings here and it remains one of my favorite settings in Mexico.
For couples seeking something more intimate, private villa estates along the Riviera Maya corridor, several of them available for exclusive buyout, offer a level of personalisation and privacy that no hotel can match.
If you’re still choosing between venues or comparing properties along the corridor, I’m happy to share what I know from having worked across the entire Riviera Maya.

Frequently asked questions
01.
How would you describe your approach to wedding photography?
My approach blends documentary and editorial instincts. For most of your day I stay invisible, capturing real moments as they unfold. During portraits I guide you gently, making sure you look and feel your best without spending too long away from your guests.
02.
Do you shoot on film in Playa del Carmen?
Yes, and I love it. The Caribbean light of the Riviera Maya, that combination of turquoise water, white sand and tropical canopy, especially during golden hour on the beach or in the soft diffused light of a cenote, is exceptional for analog photography. I offer fully analog collections as well as film add-ons to digital coverage, just mention your interest when you get in touch.
03.
Can we meet or have a call before booking?
Absolutely. I’m always happy to jump on a video call to hear about your plans and answer any questions. It’s a great way to make sure we’re the right fit for each other before committing to anything.
04.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book around a year in advance, especially for peak season dates. I’d recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date in mind to check availability.
05.
When will we receive our photos?
You’ll receive a preview gallery within 48 hours of your wedding. The full edited collection is delivered within two months.
