Capturing the Magic of Your Destination Wedding in Peru.
Peru is one of those destinations that makes every other wedding location look ordinary by comparison. A ceremony at sunrise in the Sacred Valley with the Andes as your backdrop.
An intimate elopement in the ruins above Aguas Calientes.
A colonial church in Cusco where the stone walls have witnessed
four centuries of celebrations before yours.
I photograph weddings here the way the landscape demands,
with patience, with altitude respect, and with the understanding
that when the light hits the Andes at golden hour, you don’t direct.
You just watch and document.
Why Peru is One of the World’s Most Unforgettable Wedding Destinations
If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding that goes beyond the expected, Peru delivers something no Caribbean beach or European villa can replicate. Ancient Inca citadels rising above the clouds in Machu Picchu. Colonial churches in Cusco where the stone walls carry four centuries of history. The Sacred Valley stretching out beneath the Andes with a silence that makes every ceremony feel genuinely sacred.
I’ve traveled across Latin America and Europe documenting weddings, and Peru sits in a category of its own, not because
of luxury infrastructure, but because of what the landscape does to people. Couples who choose Peru aren’t looking for a
resort backdrop. They’re looking for something that will still feel extraordinary twenty years from now.
That’s exactly the kind of wedding I was made to photograph.

Why Couples Choose Peru for Their Destination Wedding
Peru works as a wedding destination for reasons that have nothing to do with convenience, though the logistics are easier than most couples expect. Direct flights from the US, Canada and Europe land in Lima, with connections to Cusco in under an hour.
The dry season from May to September gives you
reliable weather across the Andes, while Lima and the coastal region offer mild, sunny conditions year-round.
But the real reason couples choose Peru is the venues. Not beachfront resorts, though those exist, but places like Hacienda Sarapampa in the Sacred Valley, the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco, or Inkaterra Machu Picchu, where the ceremony backdrop is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an ancient citadel visible from every window. These are venues that don’t need decoration. They arrive already extraordinary.
For couples coming from the US or Europe, Peru also offers something increasingly rare in destination weddings: genuine value. A five-star hacienda in the Sacred Valley, a private ceremony at sunrise above Aguas Calientes, a colonial reception in Arequipa, all of it at a fraction of the cost of comparable experiences in Tuscany or the Maldives.
The Best Places to Get Married in Peru
Lima
Peru’s capital surprises most couples. The Miraflores
clifftops drop directly into the Pacific, giving you ocean
views that rival anything in Europe, paired with a colonial architecture and a culinary scene that makes every reception dinner a genuine event. Historic churches in Barranco, rooftop venues above the sea, intimate garden estates in San Isidro. Lima works for couples who want culture and sophistication without sacrificing accessibility.
Sacred Valley
The region between Cusco and Machu Picchu is where most serious destination weddings in Peru happen, and for good reason. Hacienda Sarapampa, Explora Valle Sagrado, and the boutique estates along the Urubamba River offer the kind of setting that makes guests forget they’re at a wedding and remember they’re in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Ancient Inca terraces as your ceremony backdrop. The Andes on every horizon.
Cusco
A colonial city built on Inca foundations, Cusco is the
natural base for Sacred Valley weddings and a destination in its own right. The Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, Hotel Monasterio, and Inkaterra La Casona offer five-star properties inside 16th-century buildings. There is nowhere else on earth where you can marry inside a Spanish colonial cloister built on top of an Inca palace.
Arequipa
The White City earns its nickname, the sillar stone
architecture glows in the afternoon light in a way that
photographs unlike anywhere else in Peru. El Misti volcano presides over every outdoor ceremony. Hacienda La Reyna and the historic convents of Santa Catalina provide venues with centuries of character. For couples who want colonial grandeur without the altitude of Cusco, Arequipa is the answer.
Máncora & Paracas
For couples who do want a beach ceremony, Peru’s northern coast delivers. Máncora has year-round sunshine and a relaxed Pacific energy, luxury boutique resorts, consistent surf, golden light at sunset. Paracas offers something stranger and more dramatic: desert meeting ocean, flamingos in the reserve, and a silence that makes the Ballestas Islands backdrop feel genuinely otherworldly.

How to Make a Destination Wedding in Peru Actually Work
Work with a local planner from day one
Peru has its own wedding ecosystem, vendors, venues, logistics and legal requirements that only make sense if you’ve navigated them before. A planner based in Cusco or Lima will save you months of confusion and connect you with the suppliers who actually deliver at altitude. This is not a destination where you improvise.
Understand the legal requirements early Marrying legally in Peru requires valid passports,
apostilled birth certificates, and a sworn affidavit
confirming single status, all of which need to be
prepared well in advance. Many couples choose to handle the legal ceremony at home and treat Peru as the symbolic celebration, which removes the paperwork entirely and lets you focus on the experience.
Book your photographer before your venue
Destination wedding photographers who know Peru, who have shot at Inkaterra, who understand the altitude light in the Sacred Valley, who know how golden hour works above the Urubamba River, book out fast. Securing your photographer first gives you a creative partner who can advise on timing, locations and
logistics before any other decision is made.
Let Peru feed your guests a reception in Peru without Peruvian food is a missed opportunity. Ceviche, tiraditos, lomo saltado, causa rellena, the country has one of the most celebrated
culinary scenes in the world, and your wedding menu should reflect that. Pair it with Pisco Sours at cocktail hour and a live band playing Afro-Peruvian jazz, and you have a reception nobody will forget.
What to Tell Your Guests Before They Arrive
Help them plan the journey
Peru rewards guests who arrive with a few extra days. A direct flight from Miami to Lima takes around five hours, from London, roughly twelve with a connection.
From Lima, a one-hour domestic flight reaches Cusco. Recommend they book accommodation in Miraflores or Barranco in Lima, and in the San Blas neighbourhood if they’re spending time in Cusco. Both are walkable, beautiful, and full of good restaurants.
Prepare them for altitude
If your wedding is in Cusco or the Sacred Valley,
altitude is the conversation you need to have early. Cusco sits at 3,400 metres. Most guests will feel it the first day, headache, fatigue, shortness of breath. The advice: arrive two days before the wedding, drink coca tea, avoid alcohol the first night, and move slowly. It passes quickly but surprises everyone who ignores it.
Give them reasons to stay longer
The couples who get the most out of a Peru wedding are the ones whose guests treat it as a trip, not a flight. The Machu Picchu citadel is two hours from the Sacred Valley by train, most guests will want to go. A food tour in Lima’s Surquillo market, a hike in the Rainbow
Mountain, a boat trip on Lake Titicaca. Peru has enough to fill two weeks without repeating a single experience.
